A New Year With New Technology

Me & My New Toy!

Well, I'd resisted the urge for a long time (actually since Apple made the announcement back in 2010), but I finally got an iPad2. Through the generous gifts of family members, along with a majority portion of honorarium money (from weddings & funerals), I was able to purchase an iPad2/32GB/Wi-Fi this Christmas.

The purchase was actually made about two and a half weeks prior to Christmas. Ann wanted to make sure we actually got one off the shelves, so not to be left in the lurch if they happened to be sold out (ever the well-prepared one, my Ann). So, there it sat, on our dresser, unwrapped and unopened, staring me in the face, taunting me every morning and every evening. Ah well, resisting temptation to open it early helped improve my character.

Come Christmas Day, following our worship service at Cornerstone EFC, and after a delicious, lovingly prepared meal, we opened presents. I made sure the iPad was the last one opened because I knew once it was opened, all hope of not being distracted would be gone! Little did I know that my family had also purchased a beautiful black leather cover made by Targus. It acts as not only a cover, but also a stand that can swivel 360º to allow for either portrait mode or landscape mode (my preference).

They also gave me a Zagg invisibleSHIELD for the screen. This stuff is rugged, went on great and truly provides great screen protection.

After using the iPad2 for several days, I used other Christmas gift money (thanks Mom & Dad!) to purchase a Logitech Tablet Keyboard. It's not that I didn't mind using the on-screen keyboard of the iPad, but I found that my touch-typing skills are better suited for a slightly larger keyboard; hence the Logitech. It's bluetooth, therefore wireless. I really like it and can fly when entering text.

Of course, there all kinds of apps I'm now checking out. Both free and purchased apps have already found their way onto the iPad. I'm hoping to find ways to use it for presentations during Bible studies. And I've downloaded the Kindle app and the Nook app so all my Kindle & Nook books get transferred to the iPad for reading purposes.

It's really quite a treat. Now, if Karelia, makers of my blogging software for Mac would come up with an app, I could just about leave my MacBook Pro at my study at church, use the iMac at home and carry the iPad with me everywhere else. Some day?
