Where Kids Sleep

All right everyone, gather round; I have a confession to make––I use StumbleUpon.com

Phew! There; glad that’s off my conscience. I wasn’t sure how much longer I could hold out. Actually Stumbleupon.com has been a lot of fun, at times very helpful (lots of tutorials have been discovered there), and yes, as most anyone else will tell you, a complete waste of time.

However, I did “stumble” across this just the other day and found it very stirring, very sad, very humbling, and, with some of the photos, just a bit disturbing. You can check out the whole post here.

11-year-old Joey, who killed his first deer when he was seven, lives in Kentucky with his family.

4-year-old Jasmine has participated in over 100 child beauty pageants and lives in a large house in the Kentucky countryside.

8-year old Harrison has everything his Harvard educated parents can provide, including a big screen TV, en suite bathroom and playroom. He attends a private school where hitting and teasing other kids and negative energy is banned.

6-year old Bilal is a Bedouin who lives with his parents and five brothers and sister in the West Bank. Their last house was bulldozed by the Israeli military.

With the first picture came great sadness. With the second (the “Deer Hunter”) came the sense of idolatry over part of God’s creation., although this could be argued against. Picture number, however, leaves no argument of idolatry; this girl’s parents have made her their idol and she will grow up never knowing anything different. Bedroom #4 is just flat-out disturbing; this is the direct result of allowing no “negative energy” into this boy’s life! And number 5 is sad because of the injustice; but that situation in Israel will never be completely resolved until the Lord comes. The Palestinians have been shelling Israeli cities for the past several weeks (actually, they’ve been consistently violating cease-fire agreements for years, but no one says anything about that––only if Israel were to violate such an agreement would the world come “unglued.”)
